 Introduction to the School of Management
The School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology was started in 1979 with a combination of the departments of economics, engineering, economics and business management.
Now, the School has 6 departments :1) Department of Production & Operation Management, 2) Department of Science and Information Management, 3) Department of Business Management, 4) Department of Accounting and Finance, 5) Department of Public Finance, 6) Department of Technical Management and Intellectual Property Rights.
Moreover, the School has 19 research centers, including Modern Information Management Research Center, E-Commerce Center and The Modern Management Research Institute.
The organizational structure of the School consists 7 divisions which include an Administration Office, MBA Program Center, EMBA Program Center, Information Center and a Library. It also publishes the Management Journal, which is gaining a high reputation in China.
As one of the leading Schools in China, we have a close linkage with many organizations, such as The Economic Research Organization of Hubei Province, China's Association of Optimization, Statistics and Economics and National MBA Training Center of "Operation Management".
As an outstanding educational organization, we have an outstanding faculty with both a solid educational background in the Western countries and a rich practical experience in China. Now we have 127 instructors, including 37 professors (including 22 PhD advisors), 44 Associate professors, 43 lecturers and 3 assistant teachers.
At the present time, the we offer PhD programs in "Management Science and Engineering", "Business Management". We also offer Post-doctoral programs in the above fields. The above PhD program ranked 9th in China in 2001 by the Graduate Research Center.
We also offer 5 Graduate programs in "Management and Technical Economics", "Accounting" and "Economic Laws". In addition, we grant Masters degree in "Business Management (MBA/EMBA)", "Industrial Engineering" and "Project management". In the National Assessment conducted in 2000 by China MBA Education Committee, the above MBA program ranked 7th, with the ranking of features in 2nd, faculty strength in 4th, teaching administration in 4th and facilities in 17th.
We also offer 7 undergraduate programs in the following fields: "Business Management", "Marketing", "Information Management", "Financial Management", "Taxation", "Accounting", "Logistics management".
As an advanced management education and research institute, we resolves to cultivate the competitive talents with ambitions. We strive for being a "domestically first-rank and internationally well-known" institution. Within 27 years, the number of the graduates has reached around 20,000 and many of them have made a great contribution to the economic and social development in China.
Being a scientific research and consultant institution, we have successively undertaken 800 research projects, of which 84 are sponsored by National Natural Sciences Fund, 3 by National Social Sciences Fund, 10 by Doctoral Fund project, 12 by National High-tech 863/CIMS Program. As an outstanding participant of this program, we were awarded "University Leading Prize" issued by theCASA/SME in 1999,
Furthermore, we have a close cooperation with many well-known universities in US, New Zealand, Russia, Germany, France, Poland, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. As one of the partners with the Canadian Agency for International Development (CIDA), we have successively co-worked with the University of Toronto and the Montreal University. We have also founded a "1+1" Training Progtram with Canadian Regina University. In addition, we have established a close relationship with the HEC business school, Pennsylvania University, Ohio University, Otago University and Hong Kong Scientific and technical University.
Over the years, we have completed numerous projects and training programs in marketing, human resources management, information system, electronic commerce, distribution, investment, quality control. We have set up a linkage with many leading companies such as Budweiser Wuhan, HuaWei company, Digital China, Kingdee, UFIDA, Powerbridge.
We also keep the close contact with the distinguished guests from the government and different walks of the society. They come to give seminars every semester and work as our guest professors. At the same time, many of out outstanding faculties have been working as their advisors and consultants.
In terms of modern teaching facilities and good working environment, we have a main building which has a total area of 10,000 square meters, equipped with the central air conditioning. We have most up-to-date language labs and special class rooms for case study. The offices are all connected with the internet. The "Anheuser-Busch Library" sponsored by AB Corporation has the most advanced electronic numerical code gate, the IC card multi-purpose duplicators, touching inquiry mechanism and many kinds of electronic resources as well as most up-to-date journals and magazines.
At the present time, our new building with a total area of 28,800 square meters is being under construction and will be put into use in early 2007.
In order to achieve our purpose of becoming a first-rank management school in China, we will keep moving forward with all our strength and share our vision with all our partners and friends from all over the world.
