盛仕斌,美国阿拉巴马大学伯明翰分校市场营销学教授。1996年本科毕业于清华大学,2004年在美国弗吉尼亚理工大学获市场营销博士学位。盛教授的研究领域集中于营销渠道,品牌战略,新兴经济体的市场营销战略等,在包括Journal of Marketing, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Business Ethics, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Marketing Letters 等市场营销和管理学的国际主流期刊上发表学术论文40余篇。

活动简介:

Although negative media coverage has been recognized as a critical external crisis that shapes firms’ resource allocation and strategic change, it is unknown whether and how it affects firms’ customer portfolio choices, which represents a pivotal operation strategy. Drawing on the literature of customer portfolio management and crisis management, we propose that negative media coverage prompts firms to enhance customer concentration and this impact is contingent upon firms’ overseas market focus and organizational flexibility. Using panel data of listed firms in Chinese stock market, we show that negative media coverage is positively related to a firm’s subsequent customer concentration. In addition, this positive relationship is stronger when market demand uncertainty is high, but weaker for firms with strong export orientation and organizational flexibility (i.e., product innovation capability and process flexibility). Overall, our research identifies negative media coverage as a source of operations risks that can be tackled by customer concentration and boundary conditions of this strategic choice.
