On November 14, the 16th "Optics Valley of China" International Forum on Intellectual Property, co-sponsored by the National Intellectual Property Administration, PRC and the People's Government of Wuhan Municipality, was held at the China Optical Valley Convention &Exhibition Center. Under the theme of "New Dynamic ·New Development ·New Space: Digital Economy and Intellectual Property Rights", the forum invited renowned intellectual property officials and well-known experts and scholars from home and abroad to exchange and discuss. Yu Xiang, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property of our School, and director of the Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was invited to attend and give a lecture on "Intellectual Property Management under the Background of Digital Economy".
The digital economy is a series of economic activities with digital knowledge and information as key production factors and modern information network as an important carrier, and promoted by the information and communication technology. Professor Yu believes that in an era of the digital economy, there is no marginal cost of copying information, and thus consumers can also become creators. The combination of these factors makes it very difficult to maintain the balance of interests in the digital economy under the current legal framework. Based on the development of the digital economy in China and other major countries in the world, Professor Yu pointed out that the developing digital economy is promoting the adaptive revision of legislation related to intellectual property in China. With the new legislative requirements due to the rapid growth of new intellectual property rights in the digital economy, he noted the challenges and valuable opportunities of intellectual property management in the digital economy. Finally, in light of the challenges confronting the intellectual property management under the digital economy, Professor Yu came up with several suggestions to promote the effective management of intellectual property and the sound development of the digital economy.
